Who is Bayside Studio?

Bayside Studio started providing pony photos in 1979 out of a studio located near Redwood Road in Oakland, California. The negatives we exposed were made into proofs (3"x 5" B&W prints) and these first prints were shown to our customers in their homes where a selection of pose and print size could be made.

In the early 80’s these first prints were replaced by slide transparencies that were viewed on a portable slide viewer. Tens of thousands ( an estimate would be around 70,000 ) children were photographed on one of the three ponies: Alfie, Maggie, or Midnight. As many as 250,000 photos were processed and printed.

In 1981 Bayside Studio expanded to Santa Barbara and photographed thousands of families in Ventura, Santa Barbara, Oji, and Oak View.

During the early 80’s the studio began offering, along with our traditional photo processes, a new print material called Cibachrome. This vivid and durable print material is still available (under another name) to professional photographers. The life like quality and exceptionally durable character of this fine photographic material is well regarded in the field of photography to this day. Because of our choice of Cibachrome many of our color photographs- though 30 years have passed -will have changed very little (if at all!).

Many of you are our customers from the past and will be reminded of our work-our presents in your neighborhood and the fun we shared- and many still have photos with the Bayside Studio stamp on the back. We at Bayside Studio look forward to hearing from our customers from the past and perhaps having them share with us their photos and stories. It was our pleasure to serve you for so many years before and now provide "online" this service to a new generation.
